Keep yourself entertained

As we head into another weekend of self-isolation, your home surroundings may be starting to wear thin.

If you’re at a loss of how to kill time this weekend, don’t worry we’ve got some simple things that will keep you entertained and some are actually productive — win, win.

Try out some new recipes

If you’ve been racking up the Deliveroo orders over the past couple of weeks, or just aren’t much of a cook, why not take this opportunity to change that and actually make use of your kitchen?

Try your hand at some new recipes whether it be making some sweet treats, a few savoury snacks or a complete five-star meal — you could come out of self-isolation with a new found passion for cooking.

If you’re stumped at what to make, we’ve got you covered. Here’s some delicious recipes you can try:

Work on your fitness

There really isn’t any excuse not to be doing some form of exercise. While in our normal routines we may use the classic excuse, “I’ve just got no time to work out”, that’s no longer relevant — all you have is time! And don’t try and play the”my gym is closed card” because there’s some excellent home work outs available.

Simply just go on YouTube and search for what you want to do. Or if you’re looking for the help of Dubai-based trainers read EW‘s handy round-up.

TV show time

Of course, we want you to be active, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some couch time with some good television shows.

It could even be the opportunity to try out something new. Well this weekend is perfect timing as mobile phone company Huawei has just launched a new streaming service app, available on on Huawei and Honor smartphones.

Over 10,000 hours of Arabic content is available, as well as over 10,000 hours of global content, which will definitely see you through the remainder of quarantine. Not only that channels like the BBC are available to stay up-to-date with the latest news. Other channels available include The Explorers, QelloConcerts, ToonGoggles, TVB and Mango TV, as well as that streaming service Dailymotion is available on the app where you can view trending videos.

There’s also plenty to get through on Netflix – some of our top recommendations include Unorthodox and Self Made. Similarly, Amazon Prime also has plenty of new binge-worthy shows for you to watch.

Spruce up your interiors

If you’re growing tired of your surroundings, we totally get it. But it could mean it’s time to give your home interiors a bit of a revamp.

Why not try rearranging some furniture to improve your feng shui? Or perhaps try adding some greenery into your living spaces, it will definitely breathe a new lease of life into a room. Here’s some hacks to get you started.

Get brunch delivered

If all you have been doing is cooking while you’ve been staying at home, why not treat yourself to a spot of brunch from some Dubai hotspots.

Society Cafe & Lounge has introduced three brunch packages available for delivery. Similarly, No. FiftySeven Boutique Cafe has put together brunch boxes of all the essential ingredients you need to recreate some of their top selling dishes in the comfort of your home (Dubai and Abu Dhabi).

Stay off your phone and pick up a book

Simple, yet more often than not overlooked. We often complain we never have the time to get our noses stuck in a good book. Well, now we have been given the gift of time, so stop scrolling needlessly through social media and pick up a good book. It’s amazing how reading can help calm the mind, and let us get lost in a different world.

If you’re not into books, then how about a good magazine? Luckily, the latest ‘Go Your Own Way’ issue of Emirates Woman is currently available to buy. To make it even easier, it’s also available to download for free.

Catch up with friends and family

In the hustle and bustle of every day life, we often don’t have the time for hour-long calls with family and friends to catch up. Well, given everyone is currently stuck at home it’s the perfect time to get on video call and just talk.

And if you’re wanting to get a big group together, why not conduct a group quiz via Zoom? It’ll take your mind off things, and inject some group fun into self-isolation.
