Are you using your make-up products correctly? Here, Jodi Gill, an Illamasqua-trained make-up artist, shares her secrets, tips and tricks to achieving flawless looking skin.

Unless you’re a trained make-up artist the chances are that you haven’t got a clue on how to use half of the products in your vanity case, and what’s more we bet, each month, you continue to buy the latest fad product in the hope it will help.

Well, it’s time to streamline and get savvy with our guide to the top make-up tips every woman should know.

1. FOUNDATION

Your foundation will only look as good as you prep your skin. Exfoliate, tone and moisturise regularly and always use a primer that works with your foundation. Use a water-based primer for water based foundation, use oil based primers for oil based foundations. The best primer and foundation for all skin types is Illamasqua hydra veil or matt veil and Illamasqua skin base foundation. When applying foundation blend from the nose outwards, a round Illamasqua highlighter brush gives the best results for flawless looking skin.

2. CONCEALER

Concealer

Always apply your concealer in a V shape, start down the side of your nose and up along the top of your cheek bones and the blend in using your fingers or a concealer brush. Always use a concealer that is a shade lighter than your foundation, this creates a really good highlighting effect. I recommend Illamasqua Skin Base Lift.

3. BROWS

brown powder

Always apply brow products to the upper part of your brow to give a lift, never block colour in the front part of your brows.

4. POWDER

White Powder

Lightly dust translucent powder all over your face after applying foundation, this helps to keep make-up in place and banish any shine, the Illamasqua powder also comes in a compact and is perfect to carry around in your handbag for easy re-touching throughout the day.

5. LIPS

Apply a lip liner in a complimentary shade darker than your lipstick to give definition. If you are prone to dry lips, first use a lip scrub and stick to satin finish lipsticks as these contain more moisture. Matt lipsticks can be made satin with a touch of gloss and will last all day! My favourite lipsticks are Illamasqua’s rosepout and shard.
