Calculated at exactly 302.37ct, it has been named Graff Lesedi La Rona and to put it in perspective, it would take 16 of Beyoncé’s engagement rings put together to create one such rare find.

It was cut from a 1,109-carat rough diamond, which was the second-largest diamond discovered in more than 100 years. In a statement on Instagram, Laurence Graff spoke of the craftsmanship involved in shaping the gem:

“Polishing a diamond of this size is an art form, the ultimate art of sculpture. It is the riskiest form of art because you can never add, you can never cover up a mistake, you can only take away. You have to be careful and you have to be perfect.”

It took 18 months of work to achieve the final result. What about the rest of the stone? Another 66 diamonds were also cut, ranging from under one carat to 26 carats meaning that more one person might wear a piece of this sparkling history.

Put a ring on it.
