See art for a good cause

Running until May 8, the Abolish 153 Exhibition at JAMM Art Gallery will be showing 40 artworks in an effort to raise funds for an important campaign to abolish article 153 from Kuwait’s penal code. The article effectively gives men regulatory, judicial and executive power over their female kin in blatant disregard of the constitution, international agreements on human and women’s rights and even the Islamic Sharia. All artworks are created for the purpose of the exhibition and include Kuwaiti photographers, Iranian painters and Iraqi multi-media artists. Fifty per cent of proceeds from the sale will go towards the fight to abolish Article 153.
