Jennifer Lawrence I

She’s the actress we always look out for on the red carpet. Not only for her stunning choice of gown but because of her clumsy antics, her photo bombing opportunities and her wonderfully honest comments. Here’s why we love Jennifer Lawrence...

She’s the highest-grossing heroine in our favourite film series and best-seller, The Hunger Games, and at the tender age of 22 she received an Academy Award for Best Actress in her lead role in, The Silver Linings Playbook. To celebrate her 25th birthday (on Aug 14) we round up the top 10 reasons why we can’t get enough of Jennifer Lawrence.

Jennifer has come a long way from her family home on a horse-farm in Louisville, Kentucky. Little did she know that her big break would come at the age of 14 in New York City, when a stranger asked to take her picture and invited her for a screen test.

It’s safe to say the rest is history. Today, there is no denying that J-Law is everyone’s favourite actress and undoubtedly the most ‘normal’ celebrity in Hollywood. From falling on stage to getting seriously star-struck by Jack Nicholson, here’s our fave things about Ms Katniss Everdeen.

1. She gets genuinely star struck by her favourite celebrities

Unlike other A-listers, which are unfazed by famous faces, Jennifer gets genuinely overwhelmed by some of her favourite celebrities. Her most famous run-in was on the red carpet with the True Grit actor, Jeff Bridges, which saw her running up to him like a crazed fan at Comic-Con in San Diego.  Other jaw-dropping moments included her flirty encounter with, The Shining, star, Jack Nicholson, at the 2013 Oscars ceremony.

2.  She was the face of Miss Dior

In 2012 the Creative Director of the brand, Raf Simmons, appointed the, Winter’s Bone, actress to head-up Dior’s newest campaign. In the last few award seasons, she has taken to the red carpet wearing numerous Dior Couture creations and appearing in the FROW at Dior’s Couture show. Talking to WWD, she said: “It’s such a dream to represent an iconic brand that is synonymous with high fashion.”

3. She recognises and appreciates her fans

Some celebs grace the red carpet rarely acknowledging their fans and paying more attention to the paparazzi. But Jennifer Lawrence is a very different kind of celebrity. During the London premiere of the Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Jennifer abruptly stopped an interview to embrace a crying fan in the crowd until she felt better. The Hunger Games fan used a wheelchair and could not see the red carpet in front of her. Fortunately, a hug from J-Law can make everything better.

4. She makes the best out of embarrassing situations

Falling on stage when you’re going to collect an Oscar for Best Actress has to be the most embarrassing thing to happen to any human. But when you’re Jennifer Lawrence, laughing it off and laughing at yourself is the only way to get through it and come out on top. And this is exactly what she did, saying: “This is nuts. You guys are only standing up because I fell and you feel bad. That was embarrassing.” Her clumsy behaviour only makes her more endearing.

So we laughed even harder when she tripped over on her red carpet entrance to the Oscars in 2015.

5. The favourite part of her day is eating

Having a good appetite and enjoying food is not a recognisable celebrity trait. Staying in shape and working out is an A-lister’s daily ritual, so we could not believe it when J-Law said: “Eating is one of my favourite parts of the day.” Food should be enjoyed and we love her even more for admitting she loves comfort food.

6.  She’s honest about her body woes

Jennifer has spoken about the pressures on Hollywood actresses to be thin and in the past she has been encouraged by producers to lose weight. She said: “Somebody told me I was fat, that I was going to get fired if I didn’t lose a certain amount of weight. They brought in pictures of me where I was basically naked, and told me to use them as motivation for my diet. They thought that because of the way my career had gone, it wouldn’t still hurt me.” Despite being in great shape and Hollywood’s It girl, she refuses to give into conformity. Hooray!

7. She has a genuine love for Photoshop

Like all normal human beings who would love to have their blemishes hidden and most-hated body parts smoothed out, Jennifer does too. Telling Access Hollywood: “Oh my god, I haven’t seen this. That doesn’t look like me at all. I love Photoshop more than anything in the world. Of course it’s Photoshop, people don’t look like that.”

8. She has views and isn’t scared to speak her mind

For someone so young, J-Law is certainly clued-up about a lot of things and isn’t afraid to voice her views. Speaking about the stigma surrounding mental illness for her role in the Silver Linings Playbook, she said: “I don’t think we’re going to stop until we get rid of the stigma for mental illness… It’s so bizarre how in this world if you have asthma you take asthma medicine, you have diabetes you take diabetes medicine but as soon as you have to take medication for your mind there’s such a stigma behind it.”

9. She’s super talented and believes in genuine hard work

Having won an Oscar at the age of 22 is testament to her true hard work and dedication. Her direct approach to acting has definitely got her where she is today. Despite auditioning twice for her role in, Winter’s Bone, the casting producer and director said she wasn’t right for the role, so in true J-Law fashion; “I flew to New York on a red-eye, like one would, and showed up the next day, and probably just scared them into giving me the part.”

10. She’s wonderfully weird

Probably the most honest reason of them all. If it’s not GIFs of her faces on the red carpet, then it’s her awkward conversational topics during prime time television, or playful slapping Emma Watson at a press event.

The truth is we love her because she’s not perfect, and as mere mortals, we enjoy an odd-ball in Hollywood. Gone are the days of the guarded, sensible celeb. It’s time for a revolution in Celebville. We want more like J-Law!
