Another week, another heartwarming encounter between Sheikh Mohammed and a child…

It’s clear that Dubai’s Ruler is very much a man of his people.

In recent weeks we’ve seen HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, pay a surprise visit to six-year-old Emirati girl Mahra Al Shehi, after a video surfaced of her rehearsing one of Sheikh Mohammed’s speeches for a school assembly.

A video of the royal jovially bonding with a giant sea turtle also went viral after it was shared by his wife, HRH Princess Haya bint Al Hussein.

And now, a new video has cropped up showing Sheikh Mohammed at a horse racing event in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi, when a young Emirati boy came up and requested to recite a poem for the royal.

Sheikh Mohammed readily agreed, and even became so engrossed he bent over towards the boy encouragingly mid-way through the recital.

The royal even beckoned over a Yas TV presenter during the poem to grab the microphone, holding it for the young boy.

The verse, which the boy delivered in Arabic, is a national poem dedicated to the armed forces of the UAE, with the boy telling Sheikh Mohammed how he [Sheikh Mohammed] did not raise cowards and that we [the people] would gladly give our lives to protect the country from border to border.

The poem also honours the late founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

We’re off to learn some poems stat, just in case we’re ever lucky enough to run into Sheikh Mohammed…
