Shimmering metallics and bridal whites reigned supreme on the red carpet, with stars such as Margot Robbie, Lupita Nyong’o and Jennifer Lawrence turning the style dial up for the occasion.
Some of our most beloved looks, we were delighted to note, came courtesy of regional labels, who represented the Middle East at the A-list affair.
So with no further ado, here’s the cream of the crop…
Allison Janney
Reem Acra’s scarlet floor-sweeper scored quite a moment in the spotlight, after the actress won the Best Supporting Actress gong for her role in I, Tonya. With its plunging neckline, rippling train and split sleeves, we think the Lebanese designer deserved a statue of her own too for this custom gown.
Helen Mirren
Acra also dressed the Hollywood heavyweight, creating a custom fitted floor-length gown in a head-turning steel blue hue. The sapphire and diamond necklace is the perfect accoutrement to complement the block colour, while that silhouette is a masterclass in expert tailoring.
Gina Rodriguez
Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad was behind this go-big-or-go-home gown worn by the Deepwater Horizon actress. The fairytale train cascades in exactly balanced proportions, scattered with delicate embellishments to add a high-octane edge to the ethereal fabric.
Abbie Cornish
Damour-born Elie Saab dressed the Three Billboards star in this haute couture number, which stood out thanks to those dainty draped sleeves and intricate beadwork.
Zoey Deutch
The Vampire Academy actress also turned to Saab for this muted lilac dress, rich in texture and complex embroidery, with a tiered skirt that adds a touch of romance to the glamorous bodice.
We could wax lyrical about the rest of the night’s looks, but here are our absolute favourites…
