Not everyone wants to lose weight for their wedding, some women are proud of their curves and rightfully want to embrace them on their Big Day. However, doing so can be tricky with your average bridal gown sizes being smaller than ‘regular’ clothes. If you’re a plus-size bride-to-be and need help on choosing the ideal dress, follow these top tips from The Bridal Showroom…
1. Avoid straight-across necklines. It will make you look wider on the chest. Chose V-neck or sweetheart necklines that cover the décolleté but still call attention to the figure. V-neck with shoulder straps is a perfect option for big chested brides that need extra support.
2. Don’t cover arms with fitted sleeves. The most common mistake with brides who are insecure about their arms is to cover them with fitted sleeves. Long sleeves it actually makes your arms look bigger. Shoulder cap sleeves or short sleeves are the best solution to covering the shoulders and hiding the arms.
3. Wear a belt to accentuate your waistline. It’s always a great accessory.
4. Consider soft airy fabrics. Hard fabrics can be used for the corset or upper hip area. But, when is comes to the skirt use soft, airy fabrics that can be easily draped and pleated as they disguise your heaviest areas and conceal imperfections.
5. Choose a lace up back detail over the zipper. It helps you achieve desirable silhouette and secures better than a zipper.
6. Opt for an A-line skirt with an empire or dropped waistline that will elongate your mid part and flow away from the hips. It will give your body a curvy and smooth shape. If you decide to go for mermaid choose Fit & Flare silhouette where the skirt is not big and dramatic and just softly flows away from your hips. It makes your silhouette soft and curvy at the same time. If you have a longer torso and you chose a mermaid silhouette, place the belt a bit higher than your natural waistline it will balance your body proportions (see main image as an example).
