Perfect start to the New Year

Fashion enthusiasts were in for a surprise when Virgil Abloh, founder of Italian streetwear brand Off-White, visited the store at Dubai Mall yesterday. The popular brand, which was founded in Milan in 2012, opened it’s Dubai store back in October 2018.

Off-White has launched an exclusive Dubai “skyscraper” collection

This occasion marked Virgil’s first visit to the Dubai store, which is also the only Off-White store in the region. The visit was somewhat a surprise, as the ‘Opening Event’ was announced on the brand’s Instagram only two days ago.

The store, which is located in the luxurious Fashion Avenue at the Dubai Mall, saw people queue up for hours to meet the creative force behind the brand. Virgil took a tour of the store, then met fans in an hour-long meet and greet, where he posed for pictures and signed multiple outfits and sneakers.

The store offers limited edition clothes and sneakers, some so limited that they are in plastic display cases with the words “for display purpose only” on the boxes. Those in the display boxes include items from the brand’s popular collaboration with Nike, such as the Nike x Off-White Air Jordan 1 sneakers.

After it’s launch, the Italian brand released a 17-piece collection exclusive to and inspired by Dubai. The “Skyscraper” collection featured pieces that include a black, white, and yellow colour scheme.

Virgil was named the new artistic director for Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear collection back in March 2018. His appointment made him the first person of African descent to lead the brand’s menswear line. During the Off-White event, the 38 year-old designer signed a Louis Vuitton bag from his collection for the first time.

The event brought in hundreds of the designer’s fans, who were eager to meet him and have him sign their sneakers and outfits. Virgil got creative during the opening event, and took to his Instagram to share some shots of him signing.

Fans of all ages attended the meet-and-greet, but it was Noah, Virgil’s youngest fan who stood out the most, and even made it to the designer’s Instagram stories.
