These changes are huge.

First there were 10-year visas for some sought-after professions, and now more changes are coming to the UAE visa system.

In a set of strategies designed to boost the country’s economy, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced new visa rules for residents, people between jobs, and tourists.

On top of that, the current scheme that requires bank guarantees for business to employ workers from overseas will be replaced with an affordable insurance system.

It’s set to release Dhs14 billion back into the economy, HH Sheikh Mohammed said.

“In a cabinet meeting today we approved reforms including replacing the bank guarantee system for private sector employees, with a low-cost insurance scheme,” the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE said on Twitter.

What’s possibly most exciting for expats is the changes include a new six-month visa for job seekers. It won’t have any fees attached, HH Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.

In addition, it will now be possible to adjust your visa status without having to leave and re-enter the country.

That’s right, that means the end of visa runs. We’re thinking this will be a bit of a game changer for many people who call the UAE home.

The changes come after the announcement of 10-year visas for doctors, engineers and specialists in medical, technical and research fields, as well as five-year visas for outstanding students.
