You might soon be able to rack up Emirates Skywards miles on Flydubai flights…
Dubai-based airlines Emirates and Flydubai have announced that they are teaming up to provide travellers with more options.
Described as an “extensive partnership agreement”, the airlines are joining forces so they can fly to a whopping 240 destinations using 380 aircraft by 2022 (so basically, their plan is to take over the world).
Currently, the two carriers cover 216 destinations, with a combined fleet of 317 aircraft. Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East, flies to 157 destinations with 259 planes, while low-cost airline Flydubai reaches 95 destinations with 58 planes.

“The partnership is working to optimise the networks and schedules of both airlines, to open up new city-pair connections offering consumers greater choice,” the airlines said in a joint statement.
The airlines said the partnership would be rolled out over the coming months, with more details to be confirmed soon.
One important point they have mentioned, though, is that the partnership will include the alignment of the airlines’ frequent flyer programmes.
This could mean you will be able to accrue Skywards miles when flying with Flydubai… bringing you that much closer to Platinum membership status and those First Class lounges (hey, we can dream).
Flydubai currently has its own rewards programme called OPEN.
The two airlines also plan to develop a joint hub at Dubai International Airport, aligning their systems and operations to ensure a “seamless travel experience”. We like the sound of that, too.
