Unlike anything you’ve seen from a luxury brand

Over the past few years, the beauty industry has become one of the most successful, seeing an explosive growth, especially among the young. Just this year alone we have seen a slew of celebrities rush to start their own cosmetics companies, and now fashion designer and beauty entrepreneur Tom Ford has announced that he is launching his own skincare line.

This will not be the American fashion designer’s first endeavour into the world of beauty. Tom Ford is known for having one of the cosmetics industry’s most coveted luxury brands, thanks to his fragrances and makeup line. But now, as he expands his beauty empire, he wants you to know that this will not be your regular skin-care line. The up-an-c0ming brand, titled Tom Ford Research, will consist of high-end skincare products with Estée Lauder — the cosmetics giant that already owns Tom Ford Beauty.

In an interview with WWD, Ford insisted that his skin care brand is unlike other skin care brands released by competitor luxury fashion houses. “I wanted to start a serious skin care arm and have it be science-based. This is a real skin care product and regimen,” he explained. “I’m not a designer who has thrown his name on a beautifully packaged cream.” The designer was very involved in the creation process, and even requested his own lab for the project from brand partner Estée Lauder.

Now, three years and 75 trials later, and after ensuring that the science behind the products has been perfected, Ford is prepared to introduce the world to his new inventions: Tom Ford Research Serum Concentrate and Tom Ford Research Crème Concentrate. The products have been inspired by dermatologist’s recommendations to incorporate tea bags into his skin care regimen. The include caffeine sourced from gyokuro and a strain of Japanese green tea.

“Years ago, a dermatologist told me that the best thing for puffy eyes was moist tea bags. Every time I did it, I noticed that it also moisturised my skin,” said Ford.

The first-ever collection from the skin-care line is expected to make its global debut in September. After the launch, the designer is planning on releasing three more products, including eye cream, in March 2020. Seeing as how succesful Tom Ford’s makeup line is, we expect the skin-care collection to also be a hit.
