To celebrate World Hijab Day, we’re giving shout-outs to the women you NEED to follow.
Today marks the sixth annual World Hijab Day, an occasion which invites women around the globe to experience wearing a headscarf.
The event was founded by New York resident Nazma Khan in 2013, who came up with the idea as a way of fostering religious tolerance and understanding.

It’s just like the old adage: “Before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes”. Except the shoes are, of course, replaced with a hijab.
And dressing modestly absolutely does not mean compromising on style (as we’re sure you’re all fully aware).
But if you’re ever in need of some sartorial inspiration, there are several global stars and influencers with Instagram accounts that we check on the regular.
Here, we’ve compiled our favourites to mark World Hijab Day (and trust us, you’re going to want to bookmark all of these).
Halima Aden
No surprises here, as we’re often singing the praises of this pageant-contestant-turned-superstar-model. The 20-year-old Somali-American, who became the first hijabi to model for some major Fashion Week shows last year, is our go-to for high-fashion ensembles that still feel wearably fresh.
Ruba Zai
We’re not the only admirers of this Afghani-Dutch blogger, who was snapped up by Dolce & Gabbana last year to star in one of the luxury brand’s campaigns. Amsterdam-based Zai, who’s our statement-pants pin-up, donned abayas and scarves from the Italian-born label in the stunning shoot. We predict more campaigns in her future, too…
Saufeeya Goodson
It took us far too long to whittle down just one ‘Gram to embed of this Dubai-based and US-bred star. (We eventually chose this one because we love a pink suit, and hello perfect backdrop). Goodson is our hero when it comes to incorporating colour into an ensemble, and we also have a huge style crush on her bold jewellery collection.
Mariah Idrissi
She made headlines back in 2015 when she was cast as H&M’s first hijabi star, and this British model’s profile has continued to rise ever since. Idrissi (who was our September 2017 cover star) can always be relied upon for a little guidance on how to fuse streetwise pieces with elegant prints. And want to know how to nail her signature turban knot? Then click here…
Dina Torkia
This London-based blogger is the woman to follow for very-of-the-moment styling advice. Just look at this pastel-hued combo (complete with a peek of pink hair) and marvel.
Mariam Mohammad
This Kuwaiti blogger and fragrance label founder is a constant source of sartorial genius, especially when it comes to uber-elegant looks. We’re a little fearful of all-white outfits (hey, we’re known to spill from time to time… well, every day) but the above picture is convincing us to give it a go.
Leena Al Ghouti
For those who adore avant-garde edginess, this is your girl (we’re pretty sure she was sporting micro-sunnies before even Rihanna). The Dubai-based social star’s urban take on layering is inspired.
5za
She bills herself as a freelance photographer, social media strategist and event planner, but this Dubai Instagrammer also needs to add Master of Colour to her CV. Seriously, nobody creates vibrant get-ups quite like her.
Soha Mohamed Taha
This UAE blogger has managed to turn her site into an e-commerce hub, developing her own line of hijabs, bishts, bags and false lashes (which makes it much easier to literally copy her style). The Al Ain-raised star is a little bit minimalist, plenty contemporary, and a real inspiration when it comes to pulling off boardroom-ready suiting.
