Don’t get too much of a good thing…

In 2018, we’re not exactly breaking news when we say that too much time in the sun isn’t good for you.

Premature ageing. The risk of melanoma. None of it’s a good time, and we’re all familiar with the need to wear SPF every day.

The irony of living in such a hot climate, though, is that we’re actually more at risk of a Vitamin D deficiency. Those months where we’re stuck inside, combined with traditional Emirati dress, mean that 85 per cent of the population are lacking in the vitamin, according to the Dubai Health Authority.

This new invention from L’Oreal might be useful in a couple of different ways, then.

The French beauty brand has come up with a product called UV Sense, a small sticker which will tell you how long you’ve been in the sun, and when you’ve had enough. Here, of course, you could use it to check whether you’ve reached your quota for the day.

That figure will depend on your skintone and how covered up you are, which L’Oreal will ask you about when you set the UV Sense up.

From there, you just need to keep it in the sun (it comes with adhesives, or you can clip it to your watch or sunglasses) and scan it with your phone from time to time.

Better yet? It doesn’t need a battery, and can be worn for weeks at a time, according to L’Oreal.

We don’t have a date for when you’ll be able to get your hands on the UV Sense yet (or, more accurately, get the UV sense on your hands) but we’ll keep you in the loop.

Word at The Verge is that it will cost less than US$50.
