She’s not the only woman with a prominent position in the reshuffled cabinet…

Just this week, Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein was reminding us of the critical importance of tackling world hunger, and her husband’s cabinet reshuffle also looks set to address the problem.

Appointed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Maryam Al Mehairi is now Minister of State. Her portfolio will cover food security, in a clear sign the issue is a priority in the UAE.

Mehairi looks to be more than capable of the task at hand. She’s come from a leadership role at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where she was a strong supporter of women in the workplace.

“The UAE government is providing strong support for women’s careers. My advice to young women is not to be afraid of any challenge and not to let their gender hold them back,” she told The National in 2015.

“Women in the UAE need to take the risk and know that they can achieve a lot,” she continued.

It looks like she’s been following her own advice. We’re thrilled to see such an impressive woman in this key role.

Mehairi is joined in the new cabinet by Hessa Buhumaid, who is the new Minister of Community Development, Sara Al Amiri as Minister of State in charge of advanced sciences, and Noura Al Kaabi as Minister of Culture and Development.

In August, we named Al Kaabi on our list of 10 Emirati women shaping the future of the UAE, and with this latest role, she’s more than confirmed her place.

We can’t wait to see what these amazing women achieve.
