Worried about the Dubai stone? This’ll help.

It’s a fact of life for those of us in Dubai that all the tasty options on our doorstep—or Deliveroo—inevitably mean we end up a little heavier than when we first arrived on these shores.

However a planned new release from Dubai Municipality might help you keep better track of what you’re eating.

‘Food Watch’ is an app that’ll help diners make smart choices about their health, with the nutritional information of food at thousands of outlets in its database.

While the app is primarily designed to digitise all food safety and nutritional information, it’ll also mean users can check what ingredients are in their dishes—and even learn if they’re organic.

You’ll also be able to see what suppliers are behind the ingredients—the whole point is to let customers trace their meal from “farm to fork”.

The platform, which was unveiled at the 11th Dubai International Food Safety Conference, will be rolled out at over 20,000 food and beverage outlets in the emirate, the municipality revealed.

There’ll also be a website that stores the information too, and it’ll making dining out much easier for those with allergies and health conditions that limit what they can eat.

The app is currently at the information-gathering stage, with it set to go live within nine months, officials told Khaleej Times.

“Let’s say a consumer wants organic food or seafood. He/she enters their preferred item on the app, which will show them the restaurants that serve it, along with the restaurant’s ranking, the food item’s calories, suppliers that the outlet gets the food from, its nutritional claims, and so on,”said Hussain Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality.

“The app helps the civic body keep track of the food and connect with food outlets and hotels across the city to provide residents with healthy and safe food. We want to make sure there’s food for everyone under healthy conditions.”
