Food trucks, street art, plenty of greenery… yep, this sounds like somewhere we’d want to while away a weekend.

Sharjah looks set to become a more tourist-friendly hot spot with a just-announced development, which will see 3.3 kilometres of beachfront turned into an outdoor paradise.

HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, approved the plans, which aim to bring a promenade, cycling and walking tracks to the area.

The stretch of coastline alongside Sharjah Beach Road will also welcome food trucks, street art spaces, changing rooms, prayer areas, water sports and greenery, according to Gulf Business.

The Sharjah Beach Development Project will reach from Sharjah Ladies Club to the Ajman border, and will include picnic and fitness areas.

“The council is keen to give priority to the implementation of specific projects that will form the nucleus of the transformation being implemented by the council to improve and develop infrastructure, utility and public services in Sharjah, especially its waterfront areas,” said Khalid Mohammad Al Ali, secretary-general of Sharjah Urban Planning Council.

“To meet the needs of a healthy lifestyle, the beach promenade offers different areas for walking, as well as a bicycle lane, which will be linked to a future integrated citywide network. Additionally, a seating wall will span most of the project offering a place for viewing the sea and relaxation.”
