“As we’re known for designing clothes that fit sculpturally around the body, it just felt right.”
She was the iconic architect dubbed the “Queen of the Curve”.
So it’s little wonder that a label renowned for its sleek, figure-skimming designs decided to pay homage to the late Zaha Hadid for its anniversary collection.

American brand Cushnie et Ochs, which is celebrating its 10th birthday this year, sent a line dripping in fluid silks, sculpted tailoring and streamlined silhouettes down the New York Fashion Week runway.
The label, launched in 2008 by Parsons School of Design graduates Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, has in fact long been influenced by the Iraqi-British architect, the duo revealed.
“Since day one, we’ve been inspired by art and architecture,” Cushnie told Elle following the show.
“Our collections are inherently very clean, so it’s always been a good starting point for us, and we’ve looked at Zaha over the years but never properly focused on her.”
Baghdad-born Hadid, who passed away aged 65 in Miami in March 2016, was the first female recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, as well as the first woman awarded the Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Cushnie and Ochs, who’ve been dubbed queens of body-con in their decade-long history, decided it was a perfect time to pay tribute to their muse.
“She’s known as the ‘Queen of the curve’ and, as we’re known for designing clothes that fit sculpturally around the body, it just felt right,” Cushnie added.
The show attracted stars such as models Ashley Graham and Jessica Hart and actresses Malin Akerman and Whoopi Goldberg, who watched the collection’s clean lines and minimalistic cut-outs strut down the catwalk.
Aside from taking inspiration from Hadid, the line was also designed with the motto “by women, for women” in mind.
One of our particular favourite pieces is this navy blazer, which fuses masculine tailoring with feminine detailing.
The label has previously dressed everyone from former US First Lady Michelle Obama to Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, so will we soon see the A-list in the Hadid-inspired line?
