New year, new you might be a bit ambitious, but better skin is within reach.
We all know that the two biggest skincare tips are to stay out of the sun and quit smoking, but once you’ve got those out of the way, what’s next?
(Well, drinking a lot of water, but aside from that.)
There’s something about the new year that makes us want to completely overhaul our skincare routines. If you’re on the same page, join us for a look at the six products we’re hoping will completely revolutionise our faces in 2018. Or at least have us looking a little more well-rested. It’s about achievable goals.

There’s about to be a new way of shopping in the UAE and beyond…
Shiffa Brightening Ampoules
This Dubai-based natural beauty brand has some seriously potent products, showing that a clean ingredients list doesn’t mean forsaking efficacy. Our pick is the Brightening Ampoules (Dhs353), which you massage into clean skin pre-moisturiser. It’s made with niacinamide amino acid complex B, and makes a truly noticeable difference in skin texture and pigmentation. Winner.
Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
This mask isn’t for the faint of heart or the sensitive of skin – it does tingle a bit on your first couple of uses. We’d say it’s more than worth it though. The Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask (Dhs224) is pretty well unbeatable when it comes to revitalising skin. If you’d like clearer, brighter, smoother skin, this is for you.
Dermalogica PreCleanse Balm
This isn’t actually launching in the UAE until January 5, but it’s one to look out for. Long-time Dermalogica fans will be familiar with the brand’s PreCleanse oil, and this is very much along the same lines. As a balm texture, though, it’s easier to use and travel with. We’re converted. Grab it from the Dermalogica store in The Dubai Mall.
La Roche Posay Effaclar Breakout Corrector
In an ideal world, we’d all leave acne behind in our teens, but as the evidence shows, we’re some way short of that. The good news is that this French pharmacy brand spot treatment actually works – and it’ll only cost you around Dhs60 at the chemist. We’ve been known to buy multiple tubes at once…
The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane
Squalane is one of the best oils you can put on your face, according to Michelle Villet of beautyeditor.ca. She’s pretty much never steered us wrong, and this offering from The Ordinary will only set you back about Dhs35 on Asos. If you’re after a super-natural moisturiser, this is your option.
Nuxe Crème Prodigieuse Nuit – Anti-Fatigue Moisturising Night Cream
Another French winner, this is a night cream that’s rich but quickly absorbed. Moisturising, refreshing and made with anti-oxidants, it’s set to help your skin repair itself while you slumber. Dhs163.
