Shoe Designer Brian Atwood Talks Snapchat, 80s Muses And Dubai Dining
We’d been told shoe designer Brian Atwood was charming, but we had no idea exactly what level we’d be dealing with until we met the man himself on his first visit to Dubai last month.
Famed for his eye-watering 13 centimetre heels, larger-than-life social media presence and adorable, long-time friendship with actress Melissa McCarthy, we couldn’t wait to sit down with one of fashion’s most feel-good personalities.
It’s an energy he channels into his shoes as well as his Snapchat (more on that in the video below…), and something that the late Gianni Versace picked up on when he hired him back in 1996.
Cutting his teeth at mid-90s Versace – in all its high-octane, va-va-voom glory – the role moulded him into the shoe designer we see today; dedicated to creating the sexiest, sassiest shoes around, made for bad girls with great style. (Just look up the name of his most famous pump if you don’t believe us…).
Eventually, launching his eponymous label in 2001, the brand has gone from strength to strength, and is a mainstay on red carpets everywhere. We caught up with Atwood at Level Shoe District in The Dubai Mall (the region’s exclusive retailer), to get an insight into his world. What better way than via his Instagram account…
