Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak

Further bolstering her reputation as an  empowering local icon, particularly among women, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, has launched her official website – Mother Of The Nation.

Accessible in both Arabic and English, motherofthenation.ae has been promoted as a platform from which people in the UAE, and beyond, can learn about the incredible achievements of UAE women, a topic close to our hearts at Emirates Woman.

In a statement posted on the website’s masthead, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, wife of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates. said: “In a world dominated by turmoil and conflicts, I believe that women are capable of disseminating Islamic culture and instilling its spirit in the new generation. This capability is closely linked with women education and the guarantee of living in a community which provides equal rights and obligations. Based on this belief, I am committed to continue work relentlessly to ensure that women remain fundamental partners in the growth and development process. I will continue to support women wherever they are, empowering them to manifest their status as the key to peace in our present world.”

Sheikha Fatima has always been instrumental is helping to provide a voice for the women in the region. In 1973, she established the Abu Dhabi Women Development Association as the first women’s society in the country, followed by the General Women’s Union in 1975, Family Development Foundation in 2006 and Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood in 2003. She also played a significant role in establishing the Arab Women Organization, (Fund for Refugee Women) in collaboration with the UN High Commission for Refugees and a website to serve immigrant Arab women.

Overall her efforts have culminated in more than 500 awards, honoring her outstanding dedication, 30 of which were bestowed by the UN.

As well as women empowerment, the site also focuses on healthcare and elderly care and also provides regularly updates on the successful achievements in the region.
