The Mother of the Nation has plans to help fellow mums around the UAE…
She’s been supporting and empowering women of the Emirates for decades – and now HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak is making sure the youngest generation are well looked after too.
The wife of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan has announced that from 2018, every March 15 will be Emirati Children’s Day in the UAE.
The day has been established to celebrate children and young people with disabilities, according to statement on the Mother of the Nation’s website.
The occasion is also designed to “encourage children to exercise their rights, and to honour mothers who work very hard to raise them”, reported official state news agency WAM.

The news came as Sheikha Fatima, who is chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, launched the National Strategy for Motherhood and Childhood 2017-2021 in the UAE.
The plan aims to ensure mums and children “are provided with adequate healthcare and the right environment to exercise their rights”, WAM reported, adding that a national team will be created to implement the strategy.
Sheikha Fatima, who heads up the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (SCMC), also revealed the strategic plan for boosting the rights and development of children with disabilities.
In a speech delivered on her behalf by Al Reem Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the SCMC, the royal announced that children with disabilities should henceforth be referred to as “Children with Determination”.

The strategy will help develop programmes to support mothers and children with determination, while Al Falasi added that several laws are currently being developed to further protect youths in the UAE.
Sheikha Fatima thanked the country’s leadership, including UAE Vice President HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for supporting Emirati mothers.
