And she had her daughter to thank…

A particular fan encounter with the Ruler of Dubai at an awards ceremony this month has been warming the cockles of everybody’s hearts.

At the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award ceremony held at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi last week, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, gave policewoman Halima Al Matroushi the award for Best Administrative Employee.

However, Emirati Al Matroushi chose not to receive the award herself.

Instead, she let her mother take her place up on stage.

Al Matroushi’s mother has always dreamt of meeting Sheikh Mohammed, so when her daughter realised it was a possibility, she gave her the opportunity.

Sheikh Mohammed: ‘We Cannot Be Content At Heart Until We Start Giving’

Here’s the photo capturing the moment that Al Matroushi’s mother met with Dubai’s ruler:

From her daughter’s kiss on the head to the royal’s warm smile, there’s nothing about this photo that we don’t love.

Considering Sheikh Mohammed played a crucial part in turning Dubai and the UAE into what it is today, he holds a special place in the heart of many of the country’s locals and long-term expats.

(Meaning we’d also love a chance to shake his hand on stage, should anyone want to give us that opportunity…?).

WHAT SHEIKH MOHAMMED HAD TO SAY

“The UAE has paved its way into the future and has built a generation of innovative and excellent achievers and leaders who deserve to be celebrated,” said Sheikh Mohammed at the ceremony, Khaleej Times reports.

“We believe excellence is an ever-evolving journey, one we can build through expertise and experiences to devise forward-looking plans and formulate solutions for the challenges that face us.

“We maintain a realistic outlook regarding excellence, which we do not view as an achievement, but rather a challenge. The achievement is the future that we build for the people of the UAE.”
