Talk about aiming high…
Usually, when you hear about someone getting a job through Twitter or Instagram, it’s either a journalist or a model. You know, someone who’s work is all over that platform anyway. It’s more networking than anything else.
Not so with this job opportunity. HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is recruiting for the UAE’s first astronauts and he’s posted about it social media.

Want to go to Mars without leaving the UAE?
Sheikh Mohammed has now ordered 13 deliveries of aid to these refugees
Four applicants will be chosen, Sheikh Mohammed’s post says, and they’ll be young Emiratis. Here’s a look at the full post:
“The people of the UAE will break new barriers; nothing can stand in the way of those who believe nothing is impossible,” Sheikh Mohammed writes. “Our ambitious goals are fuelled by dedicated people, who support us until, without hesitation or scepticism, we succeed.”
The programme represents a new chapter in the UAE’s history, his post says.
Want to apply? Well, you do need to be Emirati, for a start. From there, the selection process is sure to be intense. According to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre’s website, the online application will be followed by two rounds of interviews and medical tests, with the final calls made by the end of next year.
It doesn’t exactly sound casual, but hey. They’re going to be heading into space. That’s worth competing for.
Space is a bit of a focus for the UAE at present, which makes sense as we’re a pretty future-focused country. This announcement comes after plans to build a slice of Mars in the desert were unveiled.
Keep watching the skies.
