The injured royal is back in the UAE after months of medical treatment.

Coming home after a long absence is always an emotional moment, but we’d say this is on another level.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan has been welcomed back to the UAE after he was injured in a helicopter crash in Yemen last August. The serviceman was there as part of the UAE Armed Forces’ efforts to combat Al Qaeda in the area.

Tragically, four of his fellow Emirati soldiers were killed in the crash, The National reports. Two more were injured.

Since August, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan has been in Germany recuperating from his injuries. On Monday, he met with UAE leaders at Abu Dhabi’s Al Bahr Palace, and from the looks of these photos, it was an extremely warm welcome.

In his post’s caption HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, spoke of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan’s courage and expressed gratitude for his safety.

The pair are seen smiling alongside HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

In other pictures shared by the Dubai Media Office, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, is seen joining the group.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan, who is still using a wheelchair, was thanked for his service alongside other servicemen.

The 27-year-old is the grandson of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the UAE. He attended the Royal Military College of Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.
