“Making a difference to the environment starts with the small changes,” says the royal.
Just days ago he was flying through Dubai’s skies on a brand-new zipline, and now HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is diving to the depths of the city’s seas.
The Crown Prince of Dubai got his scuba gear on in aid of International Volunteer Day, and helped clean up the shoreline in the city.

The royal joined a team on a waste-recovery mission, pulling on goggles and an oxygen tank to pick up litter from the seabed.
He was joined by HH Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Padel Tennis Association, in the volunteering initiative.
“Dubai, I heard you. Thank you for your incredible contributions,” Sheikh Hamdan posted on Instagram alongside a clip from his mission.
“After careful consideration, I have chosen to dedicate my day to cleaning the sea. Making a difference to the environment starts with the small changes we make in our everyday lives.”
Sadly, the group recovered bags and bags of soft drinks cans from the ocean, but we’re definitely feeling inspired to follow suit and embark on a similar mission (we do adore a royal who leads by example).
Sheikh Hamdan wasn’t the only public figure to draw attention to International Volunteering Day, which falls on December 5.
Today we celebrate #InternationalVolunteerDay in recognition of volunteering as a core value of societies. Thank you to all volunteers in the #UAE and around the world for selflessly giving your time, energy and love to build happier communities and make our world a better place

HE Ohood Al Roumi, the UAE’s Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing, paid tribute to those that have devoted their time to helping others.
“Thank you to all volunteers in the UAE and around the world for selflessly giving your time, energy and love to build happier communities and make our world a better place,” she wrote on Twitter.
