The Emirati man had been told his treatment would likely cost Dhs3 million.
Dubai’s Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has stepped in to help fund an Emirati man’s expensive cancer treatment after his chemotherapy stopped working.
Khalifa Mohamed Rashid Da’fous Al Muhairi, who has been battling cancer for the past five years, posted an emotional video to Instagram on Thursday after being told by his doctors that a potentially life-saving trial treatment would cost the equivalent of Dhs3 million.
The US-based patient set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to help cover his medical bills, and asked his Instagram followers if they would consider donating.

The campaign quickly went viral, and in less than a day Al Muhairi had exceeded his goal of US$500,000 (Dhs1.8 million).
Al Muhairi’s heartfelt plea also caught the attention of none other than the Crown Prince of Dubai, who commented on the video: “You are brave and we are with you.”
It later emerged that Sheikh Hamdan had offered to cover the remaining costs of the treatment, with local media group Forsan stating the Crown Prince had “taken care of it”.
