She was competing with women half her age, including model Gigi Hadid, but 50-year-old actress Sandra Bullock proved she is still rocking it after being named the World’s Most Beautiful Woman by People magazine.
There was much speculation surrounding People‘s annual issue and who would win the coveted top spot. Even the magazine decided to throw people off track by posting an image of model Gigi Hadid, who, at the start of 2015, was dubbed Model of the Year, ahead of the big revelation. And it seemed the tease paid off with readers pleasantly surprised when the stunning mum-of-one (her adoptive son Louis is now five) graced the iconic cover as the World’s Most Beautiful Woman.
The news swept across social media fast with most people ecstatically agreeing with the choice. However, you can’t please them all, with some slamming the decision. One Twitter feed suggested the team at People magazine must have been drunk when making their decision – meow!
Praised in the industry for her down-to-earth nature, Sandra Bullock admitted she was also shocked by the news. She said: “No, really. I just said, ‘That’s ridiculous.’ I’ve told no one.”
While there is no denying that George Clooney’s pal has the Hollywood looks, in her interview with People (for the prestigious cover) Sandra revealed that, to her, true beauty has nothing to do with appearances.
“Real beauty is quiet,” said the Oscar-winning actress. “Especially in this town, it’s just so hard not to say, ‘Oh, I need to look like that.’ No, be a good person, be a good mum, do a good job with the lunch, let someone cut in front of you who looks like they’re in a bigger hurry. The people I find most beautiful are the ones who aren’t trying.”
Whether you agree that she is the World’s Most Beautiful or not, there’s no denying that Sandra’s staying power in Hollywood is, yes, down to her looks, but also down to her good heart. We love Sandy, and we also love the fact that rather than talk about her beauty regime in her interview, she instead talked about being a great mum to Louis.
“I was putting him to bed and told him that even when I’m old and grey and more wrinkly than I am now, I’ll still love him and want to tuck him in,” she shared. “And, he asked why I have wrinkles, and I said, ‘Well, I hope some of them are from laughing so much.’ He touched my face and said, ‘You’re not old, you’re just happy.'”
Right there is why we are delighted she won. Adorable! Congrats Sandy, well deserved.
