Fabulous news: it’s the weekend. If you’re casting your eye around for something to do, look no further. Whether it’s a Latin flavours, personalised shopping, or drinks on the water you’re after, we’ve got you covered.
Thursday 19
Grab a sundowner on the water
Having drinks by the sea is old news – we’re only accepting bars that are actually in the water now. Barasti are hosting a pop-up bar in the sea from now until November 4, and you can spend an hour out there with a friend for Dhs200 (it includes a bucket of hops). Is Instagram ready for this? Hard to say.
Barasti Beach Bar, Mina Seyahi, Dubai. Daily from 12-6pm until November 4. Dhs200 for two. Tel: (04) 318 1313. sunsetsfestivaldxb.com.
Throw it back with Toni Braxton
There’s no way you don’t remember Toni Braxton’s 1996 hit Unbreak My Heart, and this Thursday night is your chance to hear it live. The American R&B star is playing at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium this Thursday, so if you want to hear one of the best-selling artists of the 90s in person, here’s your chance.
Toni Braxton at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, Al Garhoud, Dubai. Doors at 7pm, concert at 9pm. Tickets from Dhs225. Tel: (04) 457 3212. platinumlist.net.
Friday 20
Take in some Latin vibes over brunch
If you’re serious about food (how does unlimited ceviche sound?), want somewhere where kids are welcome, and feel positively about carnivale dancers, this is one for you. Waka’s famed late brunch now has a daytime companion, and for a relaxed afternoon with a bit of Latin flavour, this is your option. They’re extremely accommodating if you’ve got dietary requirements, too.
Latin Fiesta Brunch, Waka, The Oberoi Hotel, Business Bay, Dubai. Packages from Dhs250. Fridays 12.30-4pm. Tel: (04) 444 1455. waka.ae.
Get a glimpse of Expo 2020
With a scant three years until Expo 2020, The Beach at JBR is playing host to a celebration of past expos and hints at what’s in store. Did you know the zipper was debuted at the 1893 Worlds Fair in Chicago? We can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2020. This is a free event that’s great for families.
The Beach, JBR, Dubai. 4.30-10pm. Free. Tel: (04) 317 3999. thebeach.ae.
Saturday 21
Pick up a new bag and make it your own
Maybe we’re a touch self-obsessed (is there anything wrong with that?) but we love the ongoing trend of personalised accessories. The good news, then, is that at Harvey Nichols – Dubai this weekend you can have your fragrances engraved, your handbags embossed, and your t shirts embroidered. Stations are scattered around the store, and social media star Natalia Shustova will be on hand for workshops on the Friday night. Go on, treat yourself.
Make It Mine at Harvey Nichols – Dubai, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. Services run from 4-8pm Friday and Saturday with hour-long workshops at 5.30pm and 7pm on Friday. Tel: 04 409 8888. harveynichols.com.
Share a deluxe Diwali feast
There’s a million ways to celebrate the festival of lights, but Mint Leaf of London’s offering looks particularly lovely. This is the last day to enjoy their special Diwali menu, which comes with eight courses and plenty of vege options, if you’re so inclined. The view’s not bad, either.
Diwali set menu at Mint Leaf of London, 15th floor, South Tower, Emirates Financial Towers, DIFC, Dubai. Dhs250 per person. Tel: (04) 706 0900. mintleaf.ae.
