Think lush fabrics, striking details, and high glamour. And that’s just on the runway…
It was the weekend we’ve been waiting for – Dubai’s first Modest Fashion Week. After successful showings in London and Istanbul earlier in the year, the festival made it to the UAE in grand style.
Sure, there was a spot of rain on Friday evening, but that didn’t stop anyone looking fabulous. Read on for our highlights reel.

How Mariah Idrissi ‘became a face and a voice for modest fashion’ overnight
The weekend opened with a group show from Turkish e-tailer Modasina. There was a lot to covet, but this baroque number from Muslima Wear was a highlight. It’s rich and luxurious but still feels modern – there’s something very red carpet about the detailing at the bust.
From the same brand is this fresh, crisp gown that puts us in mind of Delft pottery. That deep blue is stunning against the cream. We’re thinking this is perfect for any fancy events during the day.
Making Halima Aden look good isn’t exactly a difficult task, but designer Rasit Bagzibagli (who she’s pictured with) really knocked it out of the park. The shell pink is so elegant, and we’ll pretty much always be in favour of a cape detail. The Somali-American model is glowing.
Bagzibagli was also the man behind this dreamy creation. So slinky, so gorgeous. This is what to wear when you want to feel like the bad witch in a Disney movie (in the best possible way).
And here’s a selection of fringed, feathered and sparkling looks from Selma Sari. Some very cool trouser options in here.
If you’re looking to make an entrance any time soon, this Peramood coat dress has got to be your option. So deluxe.
Another one for the maximalists among us. This Hilal Oguzkan gown is super detailed and super gorgeous. Ruffles or beadwork? Why not both?
As is traditional for any fashion week, half the outfits worth paying attention to were worn off the runway. Our September cover model Mariah Idrissi looked incredible in this more-is-more combo. We need those shoes.
Also off the runway, Aden took a second to grab a selfie with Turkish supermodel Tülin Şahin. We’re just wondering how they managed to fit this much beauty into one frame.
Bloggers Leena Asad and Eslimah made soft fabrics and colours look absolutely stunning. Not a bad spot for a pic, either.
Alright, so head-to-toe cream has got to be a trend now. Melanie Elturk of Haute Hijab is a vision in this get-up. Her red lip is the perfect contrast, too.
This is a master class in pregnancy dressing for events. Sebina Hussain, like so many of the Modest Fashion Week guests, really turned it on for the night.
Until next time, modest fashionistas.
