New York Fashion Week SS16: Style Director Diary

Last week Emirates Woman’s Style Director Jade Sprowson jetted to New York City for the start of the new season fashion weeks. Here she shares her diary…

From fashion extravaganzas, think Givenchy’s star-studded affair, to sweet as sugar presentations (Kate Spade New York was awash with glitter, sequins and candy-stripes) and not forgetting the fashion-week diet (us girls need fuel when we are striding the streets of NYC, in five-inch heels nonetheless), Jade takes us through an incredible insta-glam journey.

Click through our gallery below to find out how Jade spent a very stylish, and celeb-filled, week in the big city…

"The whole reason why I travelled 6,800 miles, from Dubai to New York, was for the hotly anticipated Givenchy show. Not forgetting the exclusive after-show party too!""Just landed in NYC? Then pull on your skinny jeans and blow the jet lag cobwebs away with some extra special Blood Orange cocktails at La Esquina (esquinanyc.com). At the back of a grubby little taco shop you'll find a door, slip in, go downstairs, walk through the kitchen and bingo, you've found the best-kept secret in New York." Jade wears: Denim jacket Acne at mytheresa.com, top Zara, bag Fendi'Dear Jade, Welcome to NYC, Love RT' "One way to have sweet dreams, receiving a beautiful bouquet of white roses alongside a handwritten note from the man himself, Riccardo Tisci." "Starting fashion week right with a supermodel blow out from fellow Brit James Vides at Sally Hershberger's Meatpacking salon (sallyhershberger.com)." "Here we go. First up was the ever-pretty Kate Spade New York presentation.""What no canapes? Who cares when delightful men are offering up bouquets of sunflowers and hot pink roses instead.""I've always wanted a puppy and now I can have one without the poop, constant need of walking and it will hold my lippy and phone – I love you Kate Spade.""How fun to dress up and smile at the street style snappers." Jade wears: Dress Gul Hurgel, trainers Nike, bag Givenchy"Papped, striding across the street with perfectly paired accessories – Kate Spade flowers and an oversized Givenchy purse.""Oh boy! Chanel opened up to the public to showcase the new Boyfriend watch. Inside the space beautiful men served up Coca Colas, watch tattoos and took polaroid snaps of us modelling the watches. Who said fashion week wasn't fun?" "Next up the Ralph Lauren Polo presentation. Colour pop brights, and girls with rocking Californian tans – I want to be a Polo girl!""I spied Brookyln Beckham and Selena Gomez at the Ralph Lauren Polo event on a sunny roof terrace – they looked to be getting on like a house on fire!""Quick slurp of my Ralph Lauren iced-coffee and I was off.""One thing I love most about New York, is the fact I can get kale EVERYWHERE! It comes as kale chips, salad, in juices and smoothies and in breakfast omelettes. This lunch time I took the super green in salad form at the cute Empire Diner (empire-diner.com).""The outfit I was snapped by famed street style photographer Bill Cunningham while I sat front row at the Givenchy show. He told me my skirt was pretty and the pleats were magical – Christopher Kane can take credit for that! A personal fashion week highlight." Jade wears: Top and skirt Christopher Kane at mytheresa.com, sunglasses Linda Farrow, bag Fendi"The breathtaking setting for the opening fashion week show for Givenchy on September 11. Artists stood on high pillars surrounding the runway, while the golden sunset hit the pier and the iconic Freedom Tower in the backdrop. Another pinch myself moment: I sat on the FROW, surrounded by A-listers. It still gives me goosebumps!""#fromwhereIsit wearing my new Proenza Schouler mules – basically fashion bait for street style paps." Jade wears: Mules Proenza Schouler at Boutique 1, skirt Christoper Kane at mytheresa.com"The after party that will end all after parties. Riddled with celebrities, I danced the night away in a three-storey car park–cum–celeb night club. We sipped glasses of fizz while sat in the back of cars, and ate jerk chicken and tacos until the wee hours." "When it's a Givenchy party, the dress code is always black. I paired my pink Givenchy clutch with a new season Gucci sheer metallic black dress. My little bit of class at the garage party.""Nothing like eggs, a mountain of toast, a pile of spicy chorizo and extra large sunglasses to get you through the morning after! This little breakfast haunt is supposedly the best in Brookyln and I can concur, it really is at the top of its game. (eggrestaurant.com)." "Next I hit up the brand spanking new Givenchy on the corner of Madison Avenue. The Givenchy PR revealed that Riccardo had everything to do with the design, from the wooden floor to the colour of the tiles on the wall. Welcome back to NYC!""Rainy nights in NYC call for home comfort meals in tartan and leather clad restaurants and there's no better place than Ralph Lauren's Polo Bar set on the Upper East Side. While the rain poured we indulged in steak, triple-cooked fries, roast chicken and buttery mash and finished with a berry crumble – my mouth is watering now!" "The new Polo Bar is like a set out of Gossip Girl with Upper-East Siders enjoying traditional American meals in oakwood surroundings and tan leather banquettes. It's easy to see why Bryan Boy raves about this joint. Be sure to book in advance."
