Including a light show and a Guinness World Records attempt.

Last week, we speculated that the usual Burj Khalifa fireworks would in fact be a light show this time around. Posts from Downtown Dubai’s official channels spoke about Light Up 2018, saying it would be like nothing we’ve ever seen before.

Details are still a little thin on the ground (they’ll be wanting to keep it as a surprise, we guess) but organisers Emaar have now added that the festivities will include a Guiness World Record attempt.

Here’s the post in question:

The celebrations will also pay homage to the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed, and mark the beginning of 2018 as the Year of ZayedThe National reports.

We’re not sure exactly what record they’re going for, but we’ll keep you updated as that becomes clearer.

Earlier, Emaar shared this teaser which got people speculating on the nature of the show:

Of course, they’re wanting to keep things tightly wrapped until the night, but the information available suggests that we’ll see lasers projected onto Downtown’s towers.

Odds are the Dubai Fountain will be involved as well. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Organisers are recommending heading down to snag a spot around 6pm on December 31, and taking advantage of the extra metro services that will be running.

Viewing platforms will be set up in Burj Park and Downtown Dubai, including a specially designed one available for 100 people of determination. You can check the website here.
