Dubai, the City Of Restaurants. OK, so while that’s not its official title we feel it certainly deserves the moniker with a new venue seemingly opening every week, each competing to be the new ‘best’. The current frontrunner everyone’s talking about is Mythos, a hidden gem in the depths of JLT. We decided to discover whether its greatness is the stuff of myth or legend…
Décor
Mythos is located at the bottom of the Armada hotel in JLT, getting there isn’t the most glam – walking through basements and car parks before winding along a claustrophobic corridors before arriving at the hotspot.
Design wise, Mythos transports you to Greece – it’s a slice of Santorini for sure – with its stone walls, leafy trees, rustic wooden floors, white wooden furniture with blue accents. It’s casual, while still retaining a refined cosmopolitan charm.
Ambience
Gregarious and friendly. It’s one of those rare places in Dubai where hipsters mingle among Middle Eastern celebs and local folk without there being any tension or pretentious behaviour. The vibe is laid-back and homely.

Food
“Myhos Kouzina & Grill is bringing authentic Greek food to the table,” reads the tagline and that indeed is actually what it delivers. The menu is full of Greek classics that can be experienced as a sharing concept or as individual dishes.
For those will allergies, the menu is clearly labelled with symbols dictating what’s vegetarian, what contains nuts, dairy and alcohol. Staff are also helpful asking the chef to adhere to any other intolerances – a good sign that food is cooked fresh on request.
For starters, the grilled octopus is the most Instagram-worthy dish. While cooked to perfection, we did feel it could benefit from some garlic and salt. Another standout favourite is the Keftedakia, homemade meatballs, so succulent and packed with flavour they could turn a a vegetarian. Also, a must that we think gets overlooked because it sounds too healthy is the deep-fried zucchini. Don’t question it, just trust us and you won’t be disappointed.
For the mains any of the meat dishes are a winner (the veal stew is mouth-watering and hearty), while the sea bass is an incredibly healthy night out choice. For vegetarians you can’t go wrong with the classic mousaka but if you can have meat then the signature Greek dish to try is souvlaki – skewers served with homemade pitta bread, tzatiziki and the best fries we’ve had in a long time.
For dessert there is a selection of traditional pastry-filled goodness but to be honest, we were just too hooked on extra fries to leave room.
Go For
A genuine dinning experience in Dubai that positively transports you to Greece without having to have stepped foot on a plane.
