Modest fashion is taking off
The second edition of Modest Fashion Week is taking place this weekend. Held at Yas Mall, the largest mall in Abu Dhabi, the second edition will run from October 4 – 6.
Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Khalifa bin Saif Al Nahyan, the two-day event will span styling workshops, a lounge featuring personal shoppers and photoshoots, pop-up stores as well as catwalk shows.
Shaikha Mariam will unveil her brand MKS Jewellery while Charlotte Tilbury will also take the stage on the Friday from 4:45pm. Visitors will be able to master backstage red carpet tricks and tips from the beauty mogul.
“We were delighted with the response we received last year for Abu Dhabi’s first Modest Fashion Weekend and so this year, we’ve made our event bigger and better!” said Shatha Al Romaithy of Yas Mall. “We wanted to champion modestwear through our dazzling catwalks from our retailers whilst also inviting our visitors to participate in several interactive activities such as a jewellery showcase. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Yas Mall to learn more about this conservative yet elegant fashion trend.”
Modest fashion has taken the industry by storm, with global fashion houses embracing the conservative fashion trend. Dolce & Gabanna moved into modest fashion as early as 2016, when they launched their hijab and abaya collection for customers here in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, a new exhibition at the Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco will showcase the diversity of modest fashion. ‘Contemporary Muslim Fashions’ will display 80 styles, from burkinis to ball gowns as well as sportswerar spanning both established and emerging designers from across the globe.
The modest fashion industry is currently estimated to be worth US$373 billion by 2022.
