Sheikha Aisha is the first Bahraini woman to pilot a warplane.
Now, this is the definition of girl power. Sheikha Aisha bint Rashid Al Khalifa has just become the first Bahraini woman to fly a military plane in the history of the Royal Bahraini Air Force.
The royal was watched by her proud grandfather, HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, as she took to the skies in a BAE Hawk to perform the one-hour flight.
The prime minister was keen to follow the event from take-off to landing, the Bahrain News Agency reported. He described it as a “unique event and a remarkable accomplishment that embodies determination and the spirit of defiance of Bahraini women”.

Sheikha Aisha also made history last year when she became the first Bahraini woman to graduate from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, near London.
The prestigious academy has been attended by many Middle Eastern royals, including HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, and his son, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. Sheikha Aisha would have been at Sandhurst at the same time as Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein, who trained as a helicopter pilot.
We think she would also get on pretty well with Mariam Al Mansouri, who became the UAE’s first female Emirati fighter pilot in 2007.
Since graduating from the UAE Air Force Academy, Major Al Mansouri has braved danger time and time again, even leading mission strikes against ISIL in Iraq.
