MEET THE TEAM
Sophia grew up in her hometown of Melbourne (with stints in Singapore and Malaysia) before moving to Dubai a decade ago. Having worked in the UAE newspaper and magazine industry for 10 years, Sophia has dined with King Karl, had tea with DVF and danced with Kevin Spacey. Known for her attention to detail, creativity and passion for all things fashionable, Sophia heads up the Emirates Woman Group, the women’s lifestyle division at Motivate Publishing, and is proud to be at the helm of the region’s most respected (and fabulous) magazines and team.
Over seven years’ experience in the media industry has seen Alexandria work across print, digital and broadcasting (both TV and radio), taking her from London to Dubai by way of Sydney. Making the most of her nose for adventure, she began her career as a travel writer before finding her niche in luxury lifestyle. She’s worked across numerous international titles including Dazed & Confused, BlackBook and Cosmopolitan and interviewed some of the biggest stars of Hollywood including George Clooney, Oliver Stone and Olivia Wilde. Now part of the Emirates Woman Group, Alexandria is involved in the entire creative and production process, and is thoroughly revelling being part of the “best team in the UAE.”
Jade Sprowson joined the Emirates Woman team back in November 2012. Fresh from London, our new Style Editor has worked on magazines as a stylist for the past six years. As well as Emirates Woman magazine Jade also contributes to Emirateswoman.com, Mini, Luxe and Emirates Bride.
Olivia Phillips – Fashion Features Editor
When she was four Sarah wanted to be a penguin, but when she realised the fantasy was, well, just that – a fantasy, she set her sights on a career in magazines. After graduating from university with a First in Journalism she began several stints interning at top magazines and eventually started her journey as a features writer. After working on several publications across the UK, she decided it was time to make the big move to Dubai, becoming part of team EW. Though, not totally giving up on her first dream, Sarah still pursues her penguin aspirations at fancy dress parties.
While she might be the newest and youngest member of the Emirates Woman Group team, Alexandra’s experience, both international and local, and accolades – a first-class honours degree from London College of Fashion, no less – are putting her at the forefront in the world of fashion journalism. From styling and writing to filming and directing, Alexandra’s dynamic skills, abundance of enthusiasm and incredible eye for detail make her a valuable member of the team. What’s been her most memorable fashion moment to date? “Assisting a top FHM stylist on a shoot with boy band Westlife just before their split.”
Carmel Gill – Beauty & Fashion Assistant
Alexandra Bull – Picture Editor
Alexandra’s fascination with art, photography and magazines goes back to childhood. After graduating from the University of Cape Town with a degree in Fine Art, she spent a year working in London at a specialist picture library. On returning to South Africa she got the chance to combine her passions as she landed a job as Picture Editor on Men’s Health magazine, followed by a stint at Cosmopolitan. A sense of adventure and curiosity brought Alexandra to Dubai to experience the ‘see it to believe it’ city.
