“The future of the UAE, all in one picture.”

At this stage, you’ve definitely heard the saying that a picture can say a thousand words. It gets repeated a lot because it’s so true, and the latest example comes from right here in Dubai.

On Saturday, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared a photo of his father, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that really does say it all.

The photo, taken at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, shows the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai surrounded by young scientists and engineers – many of them women.

And as Sheikh Hamdan put it, the photo says a lot about where the UAE is right now.

“This picture tells a thousand stories .. The women story in UAE .. the youth empowerment … the scientific achievements of our country … the happiness in their eyes .. the leadership of HH .. the fatherly look in his eyes .. the future of UAE .. all in one picture,” the Crown Prince wrote in his caption.

If nothing else, we’d say the young people in the photo had a pretty great day at work when Sheikh Mohammed dropped by. Nothing like a visit from Dubai’s biggest name to make you feel like your work is appreciated.

The visit makes sense, too, in light of the UAE’s focus on innovation and the future. When we last heard from the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, Sheikh Mohammed was recruiting young Emiratis to be the country’s first astronauts.

On this visit, His Highness caught up on the progress of KhalifaSat, the Dubai Media Office says. The satellite, which is set to launch later in the year, is the first to be built by Emirati engineers.

The visit was also in line with the UAE’s goal to be one of the top 25 countries in the world for gender balance by 2021.

Sheikh Mohammed said in December that “gender balance is an important element of the national agenda,” according to Dubai Media Office, and the UAE “considers both women and men as equal partners in national development.”

We’d say that showing this kind of appreciation for and support of women’s work will go a long way on that front.

The Ruler of Dubai clearly had a busy weekend. On Friday, also according to the Dubai Media Office, he toured Global Village, the popular attraction which showcases arts and culture from 75 countries from around the world.

All in a day’s work for Sheikh Mohammed.
