127 carats worth of bling.

While Lady Gaga was tearing up over her Oscar win for the song Shallow, our eyes were watering at the sight of the impressive yellow diamond on her neckline.

The Tiffany & Co. 127 carat creation is one of the most famous pieces in the world and has never been seen at an awards ceremony. It was previously worn by two other people – socialite Mrs. Mary Whitehouse and the legendary star of the silver screen Audrey Hepburn.

In fact, Gaga’s whole look felt like a tribute to the Roman Holiday star, from the Alexander McQueen perfectly elegant black gown designed by Sarah Burton, to over-the-elbow gloves.

The cushion-cut yellow stone features 82 facets—24 more facets than a standard brilliant-cut stone. It was first discovered in 1877 in South Africa and was on display at 1982 World’s Fair before making it’s way onto promotional materials for Breakfast at Tiffany’s starring Hepburn – the last person to ever wear it.

Valued at over at Dhs 110 million, the necklace is also decorated in around 100 more carats of white diamonds.

Lady Gaga might’ve toned down her red carpet style for the Oscars 2019, but there was nothing simple about the jewellery.
