A timepiece made for HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid also went under the hammer at the Dubai auction.
It was a rare piece with royal ties, so it was estimated to sell for up to US$800,000.
However a watch that once belonged to the late King Farouk of Egypt went for a record-smashing sum at a recent auction in Dubai.

Christie’s Middle East held the sale on March 23, where the former ruler’s watch became the most valuable timepiece sold in the region, going for US$912,000 (Dhs3.35 million) to an anonymous bidder.
The Patek Philippe Reference 1518 was made especially for King Farouk, who ruled Egypt for 16 years and passed away in 1965, in 1944.
Engraved with a ‘F’ on the back and set in 18-karat gold, the perpetual chronograph wristwatch also features a half moon and a star.
It is believed only 281 Reference 1518s were ever made by the Swiss watchmaker.
Another regal piece also went up for sale at the same auction; a specially commissioned Rolex GMT-Master made for HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The rare stainless steel, dual-time automatic wristwatch features the name of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on its customised dial.
