Velvet sofas, gold-tiled bathrooms, animal-print rugs … Toto, we’re not in a chain fitness centre anymore.

When it comes to working out, we’re more of the because-we-have-to, rather than because-we-want-to, variety.

However one new gym has a better chance than most of getting us through the doors… though would we ever leave the bathrooms?

From marble-topped sinks to gold-flecked tiles, these top-notch interiors would have you initially believing you’ve stumbled into a swanky salon.

However step past the jewel-toned sofas to the cross-trainers, and you’ll swiftly be reminded that you’re not just here to drink tea and flick through magazines.

“Our concept was all about creating a combined space where trendy, stylish boutique meets hard-core workouts with a bit of lounging about in between,” explains interior designer Brian Leib, who was behind the glam fit-out.

So, what can you expect if you work out there? Well, there are a range of in-house trainers to help devise fitness plans, plus every machine has an inbuilt TV (to distract you from that burn).

It’s the bathrooms that really get us though, with their fluffy towels, rain showers and L’occitane products – and ghds are on hand so you can whiz right from your workout to the office.

A one-month membership starts from Dhs1,300, though you can pay Dhs2,150 for a partner package (so you can train with your spouse, colleague, pal, or whoever gets you motivated).

There’s also a special Ramadan package from Dhs800, so this could be a good time to give The Gym a whirl.

See you on the treadmill (but really we mean drinking a juice in front of the telly)…
