Emirates Woman spoke to Jessica Crawley the Division Merchandise Manager at Harvey Nichols – Dubai to discuss how to wear this season’s key looks and the key brands and trends to look out for during their Step Into The Season campaign this October. From Wednesday October 17 – Saturday October 28 the department store will be rewarding shoppers with a Step Into The Season gift voucher. What key trends in footwear are you most excited about this season and why?
Animal prints and western boots! It’s been a while since we have seen these two trends done in such a big way and it’s about time for their reemergence.
Optic white is a big trend this season. What tips do you have for looking after white shoes?
Keeping white shoes clean can seem like an impossible task but there are some great tricks to keeping them white. I always keep a magic eraser and white nail polish close by. Magic erasers are great for keeping sneakers looking fresh and I use white nail polish to cover up scuffs on heels and the tips of my white pumps.
Animal print is back. What recommendations do you have for styling an animal print footwear look?
Stick to neutrals and avoid prints. You do not want to overdo it. Try pairing an animal print pump or boot with a midi leather skirt and chunky sweater. Three trends in one look.
What are you favourite footwear brands for animal print this season?
Gianvito Rossi, Aquazzura and Nicholas Kirkwood. Gianvito Rossi has the most variety with a strong offer across pumps, boots and mules. My favourite buy this season has been my black and white animal print mule from Gianvito Rossi.
What can our readers expect from Harvey Nichols – Dubai in terms of new sneaker trends this season’?
This season is all about the ‘chunky dad sneaker’. If you have not embraced it yet, it is time. We have seen this trend explode since the introduction of Balenciaga’s Triple S. For FW18 there is no shortage of dad sneakers. Brands that did this trend best are AMQ, MSGM, Stella McCartney and Valentino.
Which sneaker brands would you recommend to our readers and why?
For a true sneaker brand, I am most excited about Veja. They are great for everyday and less of a statement than the dad sneaker. During fashion week anyone not seen in a triple s was opting for Veja.
In your opinion, who do you think has the most innovative and interesting footwear this season and why?
Malone Souliers. In just four years, Malone Souliers has managed to disrupt the footwear industry and has become a power player among the established brands. What I love about the brand is how they always stay true to the aesthetic of the brand. While they always seem to be on trend, they never compromise who they are as a brand for the sake of a trend.
Which shoes from the collections at Harvey Nichols – Dubai work best for transforming from an office look to a night out?
Again I have to say Malone Souliers. The Maureen pump is a great shoe for the office but transitions well into a night out!
Boots are big this season, from combat boots to kitten heels. What key staples should our readers invest in?
Kitten heels are a definite must this season and a staple for any wardrobe, but if you are looking for something a bit more daring, invest in a pair of western style boots. My favorite western boot this season is from Zimmermann. I am obsessed with the python boots that walked Zimmermann’s FW18 show. I love how Nicky paired the boots back to florals and flowy dresses, keeping the look feminine.
We love the pink trend this season. What recommendations do you have wearing such a striking footwear colour?
When it comes to striking colours in footwear, I find pink to be one of the easier shades to style. Right now, I am styling my pink shoes back with a light colour denim. Once we get into the colder months, do not be afraid to pair your pink shoes with a pink sweater or blazer. In my opinion, pink cannot be overdone! Pink also looks great with grey tones and for the evening, try pairing them back to silver sequins or a pink pleated skirt.
Which footwear pieces from the collections at Harvey Nichols – Dubai would you recommend as wardrobe investments to transcend seasons?
White pumps and sandals – not only has the white shoe been one of the biggest trends for FW18, it is also the perfect summer shoe. Both kitten and mid heel boots are a great shoe to style with a winter look or a summer dress. I think we can expect to see lower heel options for the next few season. Feathers are a micro trend for FW18 but I feel we are going to see it in a much bigger way for SS19.
