Gigi, Bella, Priyanka, Imaan, Deepika… all our top style icons were there.

It’s one of the fashion world’s most significant nights, when A-listers, Hollywood legends and even royalty congregate at one of New York’s finest museums.

And this year’s Met Gala certainly didn’t disappoint, resulting in a sartorial parade of gowns destined to be remembered months from now.

Among the stars who attended the bash at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 7 was half-Palestinian supermodel Gigi Hadid, who embraced the night’s Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination theme in a shimmering Versace sheath.

Luminescent in sequinned embroidery, the gown was inspired by stained glass windows, the Italian label revealed on Instagram, adding that all the embellishments were painstakingly handcrafted.

The 23-year-old offset the number’s high leg and one-shoulder silhouette by sweeping back her hair and keeping her accessories to a minumum.

Joining the star on the night was her sister and fellow model Bella, who went down a more Gothic road.

The 21-year-old sported an all-black custom ensemble by Gareth Pugh x Chrome Hearts, featuring an ethereal sheer train and avant-garde PVC bustier.

With a structured leather cape adding an architectural edge, the finished outfit was imbued with a dark glamour, contrasting with her sibling’s more angelic gown.

Bollywood star and Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra was also in attendance, turning to Ralph Lauren for a richly ornate outfit consisting of a deep burgundy velvet dress teamed with an almost Medieval-influenced hood.

Dripping with gold embroidery and scarlet gems, the headpiece set the former Miss World apart from the rest on the red carpet (and won her a place on many a best dressed list).

The creation was completely crafted by hand, the US label revealed on Instagram, finished with Swarovski crystals, meticulous beadwork, and over 250 hours of embroidery.

Another more diaphanous gown making a splash on the night came courtesy of one of our favourite Lebanese designer, Georges Chakra, who dressed Smash star Katharine McPhee for the bash.

With gold detailing and sheer panelling, the delicate number was positively oozing a feminine charm (though toughened up with those stacked bangles).

Egyptian-Moroccan model Imaan Hammam was responsible for one of the night’s most dramatic looks, wearing a voluminous stark black cape and matching dress by Zac Posen.

With a neck-cradling silhouette and artful draping, the finished effect was regal and jam-packed with drama – so it’s little surprise that US designer Posen called the star “the most stunning woman of the night”.

Just look at how majestic that cape looks in motion:

Another New York-based design icon, Prabal Gurung, went equally as striking in vibrant scarlet, kitting out Bollywood star Deepika Padukone in a head-turning strapless gown.

Crafted in silk crepe, the sculptural shoulder bloom and sweeping train added just the right amount of excitement against a traditionally figure-skimming silhouette.

These are just the tip of the style iceberg from the gala, with Hollywood legends, catwalk stars and Grammy winners all displaying memorable gown after memorable gown.
