Think style, history, and scenery.

It’s the home of Argan oil, it’s got an Yves Saint Laurent museum, and the king is one of the most stylish royals we’ve ever laid eyes on.

You could argue that there’s more reasons to plan a trip to Morocco than not, really.

That museum

You’re reading Emirates Woman, so there’s a solid chance you care about fashion a lot. That makes the recently opened Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech an absolute must. The museum chronicles his 40-year career, and includes 1,000 items from his studio. Read more about it here, and make some plans.

The YSL museum is set in the grounds of the Jardin Majorelle, which would be worth a visit in their own right. You’ll be familiar with the electric blue villa at the centre of these botanic gardens – it’s got to be one of the most photogenic homes on the planet. Inside is the Musée Berbère, home to a gorgeous collection of pieces from Morocco’s indigenous people. Check out the gardens’ website here.

These interiors

Traditional Moroccan riads are homes with tiled interior courtyards that will make you feel like a very glamorous time traveller. If you do your research, you can find a gorgeous one to stay in, but seasoned travellers say to choose carefully. They’re not all created equal.

This shopping

Shopping in Marrakech’s Medina is an experience, even for those of us who are accustomed to bargaining in souks. It’s worth it, though. We’d be taking a spare suitcase.

These sunsets

Not that we don’t get a good sunset here in Dubai, but isn’t that something special? We’d say it’s worth travelling for.

Emirates return economy fares to Marrakech via Casablanca will set you back around Dhs3,000. The airline flies once daily to Casablanca.
