Here in the UAE, we’re all pretty familiar with the life of our nation’s founding father, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Soon the rest of the world will get a chance to learn about him. The Founding President of the UAE is set to be the focus of a Hollywood film.

Indian director Shekhar Kapur, who was behind Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age — a pair of films starring Cate Blanchett as England’s Queen Elizabeth I.

This latest project is set to be similarly epic in scale, from the sounds of things.

“Patterned after great movies like GandhiSelma, and Darkest Hour, this project will tell the story of a dynamic, powerful personality who helped create historic change,” said production company STX Films’ chariman Adam Fogelman in a statement to The National.

That’s also the studio behind Adrift, starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin, and the Oscar-nominated Molly’s Game, starring Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.

It’s not yet clear when production will start, or where it will be filmed, but we’re hoping there will be opportunities for some local talent.

One thing is clear, though. This is some of the best Year of Zayed knews we’ve heard yet.

Here’s hoping they chose to film in the UAE — we’re not exactly short of beautiful locations.
