The video posted on Instagram shows birds eating from the palm of his hands.

We’ve got more than accustomed to seeing skyscrapers sprout up all around us here in Dubai. But while you might imagine that a concrete jungle has no place for wildlife and local flora and fauna, Dubai’s rulers will prove you wrong.

These UAE Royals moved a building site to save a bird and its eggs

HH Sheikh Mohammed the Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE is known to be a compassionate conservationist.

Last year, a video surfaced of the ruler along with HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, stumbling across the endangered houbara bustard at a construction site.

The ruler of Dubai was so moved by the sight of the bird laying her eggs within that location, that according to What’s On Dubai, the ruler ordered the construction to be shifted to another site altogether.

In a video posted yesterday on his Instagram account, HH Sheikh Mohammed can be seen feeding birds who eagerly peck at the food in the palm of his hands.

Details of where this video was shot or further context aren’t available at the moment, but the birds appear to be in an enclosed area and possibly being bred as part of a conservation effort.

The video has been viewed over 310,000 times. HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, also posted the video on his Instagram page where it has been viewed nearly half a million times.

You might recall that in January this year, according to a report in The National, Sheikh Mohammed launched the Marmoon Desert Conservation Reserve that spans 10 per cent of the emirate of Dubai’s total area.

We’d say that counts as being a friend to the animals.
