The Emirates is the happiest country in the Arab world, according to this annual survey.

We’ve got a Minister of Happiness and a ruler who even penned a book about the topic, so it’s no surprise that the UAE ranks highly when it comes to the contentment of its residents.

And now we’ve got concrete proof that the country is making strides when it comes to happiness.

The UAE was this week ranked the happiest country in the Arab world in the annual World Happiness Report, and the 20th happiest nation overall.

That means that the Emirates has gained an impressive eight places in the last two years, moving from No 28 in 2016.

The annual survey, which was released ahead of the UN’s International Day of Happiness on March 20, measured 156 countries in total.

The report looks at things like life expectancy, generosity, freedom to make life choices and the economic outlook to create its rankings.

So which nation came out on top? Well, Finland took out the No1 spot, followed by Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia, which rounded out the top 10.

The UAE has had a keen focus on the issue of happiness in recent times.

In 2017, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, unveiled the first ever World Happiness Council “to standardise happiness as a measure of development”.

What’s more, in 2016 HE Ohood Al Roumi was named the first Minister of State for Happiness, 60 CEOs across the country were trained as chief positivity officers, and Sheikh Mohammed penned a book all about “optimism and positivity”.
