While Kendall Jenner might be the new face of Chanel’s spring/summer 2015 campaign and even though Cara Delevingne has seemingly fronted every high-end and high street campaign, it was relative newcomer Gigi Hadid that was announced Model Of The Year at Daily Front Row’s first annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards.
The excited 19-year-old model, was presented with the prestigious The Daily Front Row’s Model of the Year award by fashion icon Nicole Richie at the inaugural Fashion Los Angeles Awards, which were created to “celebrate fashion’s finest for their unparalleled contributions to Hollywood style.”
Understandably delighted to have beaten pals and fellow models Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Kate Upton to win the coveted title, the blonde beauty took to Instagram to express her feelings, saying: “Thank you @dailyfrontrow for a beautiful night and for the honour! Congratulations to all the other winners, who inspire not only me but the entire fashion world every day ❤️ and thank you @nicolerichie for being you and for your beautiful intro. I love you!”
While Gigi Hadid’s career appeared to have fast-tracked in 2014, her job as a model actually when she was two, starring in Baby Guess campaign. As an adult she has since gone on to star in the Guess 2012 and 2015 campaigns.
The girlfriend of Australian singer Cody Simpson, and sister to fellow model Bella Hadid, she made her catwalk debut last year at Desigual’s show and thanks to her versatile looks (she is half Dutch and half Palestinian) she was snapped up to later walk the spring/summer 2015 catwalks for Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Sonia Rykiel, and Jean Paul Gaultier. She also starred alongside Patrick Schwarzenegger in fashion designer Tom Ford’s new Eyewear autumn/winter campaign.
Further cementing her status as a hot model to watch is her appearance in the famous Pirelli calendar, which has perviously featured supermodel greats including Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Gisele and Naomi Campbell. Gigi’s recent appointment as ambassador for Maybelline has also garnered her many successful headlines. Following in the footsteps of Christy Turlington and Jourdan Dunn before her, Gigi, who spend New Year’s In the UAE with Kendall Jenner, Cody Simpson and Selena Gomez, said of her role at the beauty brand: “Being a Maybelline New York spokesperson means more to me than anyone can imagine; it doesn’t seem real! It’s the most incredible feeling and is a dream come true. I feel so honoured and humbled to be a part of the iconic brand I grew up with, and I am very excited by this opportunity.”
We believe this is only the start of many great things to come for fashion’s new It girl…
