It’s the news everyone likes to hear.

We’re getting a long weekend in the very near future thanks to a just-confirmed public holiday.

The dates of National Day and Commemoration Day in the UAE have just been announced, and both private and public sectors are getting time off.

The Federal Authority for Government Resources confirmed that ministry and government workers will have a three-day weekend from Thursday December 1, and work will resume on Sunday December 4.

Private sector workers have also been granted Thursday December 1 and Friday December 2 off to commemorate the occasions, according to Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Gulf News reported.

So if you normally get weekends off, you’ll still only get the one day out of the office.

National Day – which this year will celebrate the UAE’s 45th birthday – falls on December 2 while Commemoration Day, formerly known as Martyrs Day, is supposed to always fall on November 30 (though it can be changed, as it has been this year to December 1).

This isn’t the last public holiday for the year either – there should be a day off later next month to mark the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday.

The exact date will depend on moon sightings, but it’s predicted to land on Sunday December 11.

What about next year?

Well, 2017 looks set to have a bumper crop of long weekends (should moon sightings follow predictions).

We’ll keep you posted as they’re confirmed…
