The Oscar-winning actor is expecting twins with his British-Lebanese lawyer wife.
He’s expecting not one, but two children later this year, a life-changing experience which George Clooney says “is going to be an adventure”.
The Up In The Air actor is expecting twins with his wife, Lebanon-born human rights lawyer Amal, and spoke out about his impending fatherhood for the first time this week.
“It’s exciting and we’re really happy and really excited,” the 55-year-old told French TV show Rencontres de Cinema. “It’s going to be an adventure. We’ve sort of embraced it all… with arms wide open.”
The star also opened up about becoming a dad in his fifties, revealing he was heartened by the experience of French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, who welcomed a child aged 70.
“So I’m feeling a little better about being 56 by the time [they arrive],” Clooney said.
Though the couple haven’t confirmed their due date, the babies are expected to arrive sometime around June.
In the meantime, Amal will be limiting her travelling during the pregnancy for safety reasons.
“We decided to be much more responsible, to avoid the danger,” the actor told French magazine Paris Match.
“I won’t go to South Sudan any more or the Congo, Amal will no longer go to Iraq and she’ll avoid places where she knows she isn’t welcome.”
George and Amal met in 2013 before tying the knot in a star-studded ceremony in Italy the following year.
The Ocean’s Eleven star has previously spoken about how meeting his accomplished wife changed his life.
“All I know is that it sort of changed everything in terms of what I thought my future – my future personal future – was going to be,” he told People in 2015. “I’ve always been an optimist about the world.
“I wasn’t always completely optimistic about how it was going to work out personally for me. But now I am.”
