Istanbul

istanbul

Maybe it’s just that we know several couples who got engaged in Istanbul, but the Turkish capital strikes us as a very romantic city. If your partner loves a bit of history and architecture, this east-meets-west hub will make them extremely happy. Two continents for the price of one, and it’s only an easy five-hour flight away. Tajawal is offering four-day holidays with tours, flights and transfers included for Dhs2,978 per person. Details here.

Sri Lanka

sri lanka

Also close at hand is the tropical beauty of Sri Lanka. With a lush environment, fascinating history, and diverse wildlife, it’s the kind of place you don’t want to leave. Pictured above is the fort town of Galle, on the island’s south coast – walk around its perimeter and you’ll feel like a movie star on holiday in the 1940s. Tajawal is offering eight-day packages, with flights, transfers and activities, for Dhs5,612 per person. Details here.

Mauritius

mauritius

White sand beaches and palm trees? We’re listening. Mauritius’ Sugar Beach Resort is on the island’s west coast. You’ll have all the privacy and calm you could ever want, and more than a bit of luxury too. The resort offers poolside dining and hammam treatments. Gorgeous. Book through Emirates and you’ll pay from Dhs9,122 for seven nights. Details here.

Maldives

maldives

Pink sunsets, over-water villas and the balmy Indian ocean are waiting for you in the Maldives. Here’s your option if you want to spend a few days doing absolutely nothing in paradise with the one you love. Doesn’t sound half bad, does it? Emirates fly to Male for Dhs3,125 return – however, seats are moving quickly around Valetine’s Day, so you’d better get involved. Details here.

Bali

bali

With its lush, dramatic landscape (think volcanos and rainforests) the Indonesian province of Bali is another world. If the person you’re hoping to treat loves a bit of yoga and snorkeling on coral reefs, they’re likely to love Bali. The Royal Pita Maha, in Ubud, is a five-star resort set on the Ayung river valley. Seven nights there booked through Emirates will set you back Dhs6,947 per person. Details here.
